Insurance fraud increasingly is becoming riddled with large
transnational rings. Complex rings come from many nations, and often a
ring may have members from several countries. They effectively hide
their operations behind networks of shell companies, front companies and
off-shore financial centers.
Insurance schemes are part of a
modern global crime nexus that steals an estimated $1 trillion per
year.1 Criminal groups based in nations throughout the globe are
exploiting the interlinked nature of modern trading, transportation,
banking and monetary systems that fluidly move people and commerce
throughout the global economy and across international borders. This is a
basic introduction that was given on January 27, 2015 by the Employer's
Fraud Task Force at its luncheon meeting. These were the presenters:
- Al MacKenzie - Retired Deputy District Attorney
- Timothy Fives - Special Agent California DOJ
- Amy Suehiro - Deputy District Attorney Los Angeles County
- Robert Hammond - Retired Investigator Franchise Tax Board
